"Fun to watch, fun to take part in and all for a good cause!”?This was how one competitor described the Ride-on Charity Challenge, which made its debut at this year’s Cleaning Show.
Comprising a marked course designed to test a driver’s skills behind the wheel of a range of ride-on scrubber dryers, teams of four competed against the clock on a Karcher, Cleanfix and Premiere machine. Under the watchful eye of Michael Bizley and Michael Poulter, representing the Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners, and Steve Wright, chairman of the British Cleaning Council, penalty points were awarded for any deviation from the marked course.
The event proved very popular, and was a great way of taking some time out from the business of a very hectic Cleaning Show. The organisers are very grateful to all the participants, time keepers, judges and participating machine manufacturers. Competitors were especially grateful to representatives of the machine manufacturers for offering tips and advice prior to competing! Competitors had to pay to enter, resulting in £625.00 being raised. Judith’s Double Ds - the winning team - chose to donate the money to Macmillan Nurses.

Well done to everyone that took part - organiser or competitor. Early indications are that the event will be staged again at The Cleaning Show 2011, so get practicing. The C&M team will be better prepared next time!
