Sercon CEO receives MBE

Sercon's chief executive officer, Lorraine Murray, has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's 2016 New Year's honours list. The award sees her become a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to industry and the community in Ayrshire.

Lorraine Murray said: “I feel very honoured indeed to have been awarded an MBE, I still can't believe it! I am absolutely delighted and very proud to have played a part in the development of my local community and industry over the past 10 years. Being considered for an accolade such as an MBE is very humbling and flattering. I would also like to acknowledge that my award is recognition of the strong team of people that I've had supporting and assisting me over the years.”

Murray has overseen and contributed to Sercon's growth over the past eight years, first as finance director, then as managing director, before being appointed chief executive officer in April 2015. Under Murray's leadership, Sercon has increased turnover by 96% since 2012, creating sustainable employment opportunities within the local community and across the central belt of Scotland and the north of England.

In 2013, Murray was rewarded with the Professional of the Year accolade by the Association of Scottish Business Women. More recently in 2015, she was appointed as a director to the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce board and is also on the North Ayrshire's Economic Development and Regeneration (EDR) board.
