Safety accreditation for escalator cleaning company

Smart Services, already in possession of CHAS accreditation, has also recently received SAFEcontractor accreditation, both schemes recognising high standards of health & safety in the workplace.

Smart Services specialises in the deep cleaning of escalators and operates a nationwide service from its base in Halifax, West Yorkshire and lists amongst its clients Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, Santander, Initial Rentokil and Wilkinson’s.

The company’s application for SAFEcontractor accreditation was driven by the need for a uniform standard across the business. Stewart Powell, founder of Smart Services, said: “The company has continually strived to improve its service whilst maintaining the highest level of safety and this is reflected in being awarded this accreditation. We believe that we are the first specialist escalator cleaning company to have reached these standards.”

John Kinge, head of risk at SAFEcontractor, said: “Major organisations can no longer run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies. More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Smart Services has done. The firm’s high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within this sector.”
