JD Wetherspoon has won the overall Loo of the Year Awards trophy for the third time - the only entrant to have achieved this in the scheme's 31 year history. JD Wetherspoon is known for converting unconventional yet attractive premises into pubs which are individually designed. JD Wetherspoon entries gained platinum award grade for 90% of its entries, nine national awards and was also awarded ‘corporate provider’ and ‘space to change’ UK trophies.

Loo of the Year Awards managing director, Mike Bone, said: “JD Wetherspoon provides many exceptional toilets which set the standard for the pub sector. They have entered Loo of the Year Awards for several years and won many awards. Chairman Tim Martin is passionate about providing excellent toilets and many Wetherspoon pubs are assessed each year as part of entry into Loo of the Year Awards.”

Virginia Santos, a cleaning operative for the City of London’s major visitor attractions, was awarded the ‘washroom cleaner of the year’ award, ‘individual cleaner national award for England’ and the overall UK trophy. She has provided an excellent service to central London visitors for the past six years.

Paultons Park was presented with the ‘in-house cleaning team’ trophy and Danfo (UK) Ltd gained the ‘external contractor team’ trophy.

The Deep, a public aquarium situated at Sammy’s Point, Hull, and a new single entrant, was the ‘individual categories’ trophy winner. Other major UK and Ireland trophy winners included Lakeside Village Outlet Shopping Centre, Doncaster, McDonald’s, The Phoenix Centre, Sandwich, and the University of Worcester. The winners were selected from entries in 61 entry categories across all market sectors.

Guests from across the UK, including representatives from cleaning and FM companies, attended the awards presentation event at the St Johns Hotel, Solihull. The 2018 awards were run in association with associate sponsors Clos-o-Mat, Dolphin Solutions and Dyson Airblade wash+dry. Cleen, Danfo and P Wave also supported this year’s awards.
