Marathon swim for CLIC Sargent

A team of four from Mitie has swum 13 miles to raise money for one of its regional charities, the UK’s leading children's cancer charity, CLIC Sargent.
With the team swimming a total distance equal to a half marathon, they took just over three hours to complete the 1040 lengths of the pool raising more than £2000 for the charity.

Every day 10 families are told that their child has cancer. Diagnosis often comes as a shock. Treatment usually starts straightaway and can last up to three years. As the children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent is there with clinical, practical and emotional support, every step of the way.

The fundraising efforts were greatly helped by the staff at the St. Pierre Marriott Hotel & Country Club in Chepstow, who gave the team free use of their pool for the evening and provided drinks and towels for the swimmers.

One of the marathon swimmers, Clive Russell, a director of Mitie’s cleaning and environmental business, said: “We were delighted to be able to raise so much money for this worthwhile cause and want to thank everyone that helped and sponsored us. The swim was very hard and long but our training paid off. We are now planning more fundraising events for next year including a 24-hour swimming, running, cycling, caving and canoeing challenge as well as a 100 mile white water river swim.”
