Major contract grows healthcare business

Following a full market testing exercise, the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust (RLBUHT) has awarded its hotel services contract to the ISS Healthcare business for the third time. The contract will start on 1 April 2016 and is for five years with an option to extend for up to a further two years.

The new contract will incorporate the move into the new Royal. The hotel service provision will incorporate patient and retail catering, restaurant and coffee shops, healthcare cleaning, portering, and help desk services.
At the same time, the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust has selected ISS to deliver portering, cleaning, and inpatient ward catering services in a major new cancer hospital it plans to develop on the same site as the Royal. The new cancer hospital is expected to open in 2019 and the contract would begin at that point.

The two NHS trusts worked together on procurement, although each will have a separate contract with ISS. The 18-month project saw input from over 20 stakeholders including patient representatives, staff, and governors/shadow governors in both NHS organisations.

Jacqui Pennington, head of hotel services at RLBUHT, said: “We are delighted that ISS have been successful and that we can continue our journey to excellence together.”

Donna Brown, divisional director, ISS Healthcare, said: “This is the third time ISS has been awarded the contract for the Royal. Given the rigorous tendering process the trust adopts, this was by no means an easy achievement. For the 600 plus ISS staff employed in providing hotel services to the trust and its patients this award is particularly significant. We were also delighted that the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust has decided to invite us into their exciting new hospital. Their commitment to this collaboration has been magnificent and we look forward to providing the same high standards of service for their specific needs.”

Fiona Jones, transforming cancer care project director at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, said: “The development of our new cancer hospital presents a fantastic opportunity to deliver even better care to patients. Hotel services are an essential element in providing the best patient care and we are looking forward to working with ISS in the new hospital.”
