Legion reduces environmental impact

ISO 14001 accredited Advance Cleaning has long been dedicated to limiting its impact on the environment, and now it is using its cleaning services to develop its clients green policies.

Advance currently provides a daily office cleaning service through Mace Macro for the Royal British Legion at its Southwark headquarters.

It has recently introduced a number of initiatives to the contract to make its cleaning services greener and consequently help to reduce RBL's environmental impact. Such initiatives include: cutting down chemical usage to a minimum; favouring products with minimal packaging; using microfibre technology; and providing eco-friendly uniforms. Advance is also working with Mace Macro FM and RBL on plans to introduce a recycling system for dry waste. This will be established at a later date.
Another innovative step is the introduction of eSquiggles at the site.

eSquiggles allows for forms to be sent to and from a handheld PDA device, and can also be used to sign off work electronically. Ultimately it greatly limits paper usage as forms that were once printed out can now be dealt with directly on screen. It also limits emissions and maximises efficiency as operatives no longer need to return to the office to sign any forms.

Operations manager at Advance, Rebecca Johnston, said: “I’m so thrilled that we have been able to work with RBL towards being green. They’re a great organisation to work with and are really keen to reduce their environmental impact. We want to help them in any way that we can, and they’re very open to using our advice and expertise.”
