Hygiene Group receives 'people development' award

Hygiene Group has been named as winner of the UK’s Award for Excellence in People Development by the British Chambers of Commerce. The company won the national prize, sponsored by CIPD, for its innovative managerial and supervisory academies introduced to help develop and motivate its workforce. The award followed success in the same category in local and regional Chamber awards events during 2010.

Hygiene Group’s insistence on staff training and internal promotion has reaped significant rewards. Workers now have more confidence in their own abilities and the business has reduced staff turnover and therefore lowered recruitment costs.

Neville Reyner, president of the British Chambers of Commerce, said: “Investing in staff training and putting in place the necessary structure to promote internally takes stamina and courage - but for Hygiene Group, it has paid dividends. Not only does the business have a motivated and dedicated workforce, staff also have the necessary skills to take the company to a higher level. It’s an impressive achievement and one we should all take learnings from.”
