The Window Cleaning World Cup returned to The Cleaning Show in London last week, when crowds gathered to discover who would take the title of fastest window cleaner in the country. With ambitions to break the Guinness World Record of 9.14 seconds in the men’s category and 16.28 seconds in the women’s category, 33 competitors signed up to take on the challenge.
Adjudicated by the Federation of Window Cleaners (FWC), the UK’s official window cleaning trade body, Terry ‘Turbo’ Burrows retained his title when he was crowned the window cleaning champion, scoring a time of 15.07 seconds. He was followed by Patrick Schaumacher from WEPA who came in second place (22.94 seconds), with Paul Geddes from Phoenix Cleaning Company taking the third spot. (25.7 seconds).
Proving to be a family affair, Terry’s daughter, Aliscia Burrows, took the top spot in the women’s category, with an impressive time of 17.08 seconds. Dominika Duda from OCS Group followed in second place (37.02 seconds), with Lider’s Grasiela Vincent finishing in third place (44.81 seconds).
The competition, which attracts competitors from across the globe, tasks competitors with cleaning three 114.3 cm x 114.3cm (45 x 45 inch) windows set in a frame within a 300mm (11.75 inches) long squeegee and 9 litres (2 gallons; US 2.37 gallon) of water in the fastest time. They must also remember to wipe the window sill, with any smears incurring time penalties which are added to their final times.
Joining the competition at London’s ExCeL, window cleaner Amir Zaremberg, representing Ernetta High Solutions Ltd, came from Israel to compete, finishing in fourth place with a time of 29.24 seconds.
