Entrepreneur of the Year win for Lancashire businesswoman

Sarah Southworth, founder of Preston-based, SCS (Specialised Cleaning Services), was named Business Services Entrepreneur of the Year at the North West Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2015.

Southworth, who founded the company that delivers specialist cleaning services to businesses and housing associations across the North West, joined other finalists at an awards ceremony at Mere Golf Resort and Spa, Cheshire where she was handed the accolade by Michael Wilde, sales director at EventBeat, who sponsored the award. She said: “I was so overwhelmed when it was announced that I had won. I'm so pleased that a company from this sector picked up the award because it will raise the profile of an industry that is often overlooked. People who work in the cleaning industry just see themselves as cleaners and never see themselves getting to that next level, so hopefully it will make other entrepreneurs in this sector believe in themselves a bit more. Looking back at where we started to where we are now, I just can't believe how far we have come. Winning this award is certainly validation of all the hard work that the company has put into our success.”

David Costley-Wood, judge and advisory partner at KPMG, said: "Sarah really stood out to the judges. She has a great drive to succeed in business from absolutely nothing. She's very keen on innovating with what she does and has grown a very successful business in a very short space of time. The judges thought she would go very far."

The award ceremony, which was hosted by business and economics expert, Lord Digby Jones, and included a silent auction on the night which raised almost £4000 for nominated charity, Factory Youth Zone.
