Don't smell a rat!

Rentokil has launched its Rodent Odour Control Service - a new way to conceal the smell of rodents, both dead and alive. The service uses specially-developed Ambius scenting cubes to mask the odours associated with rodent activity, particularly the smell given off by a dead rat or mouse trapped in an inaccessible location such as a cavity wall or floor.

Rodents which are killed as a result of pest control can sometimes die in concealed, hard-to-access spaces, bringing with them an unpleasant odour for several weeks as they decompose. Rentokil's new service helps to mask those smells, meaning minimal disruption for the premises involved and less risk of bad smells for the people living, working or visiting those premises.

The discreet Ambius Cube is positioned in the area that is causing the problem at the start of a rodent riddance job, and is then removed after the treatment. Unlike most commercial air fresheners, scent emitted from the Ambius Cube behaves like a vapour and remains in the air for up to four hours at a time.

David Cross, head of technical training, Rentokil Pest Control, said: “One of the risks of carrying out rodent control is that, when a rodent consumes rodenticide it may end up dying within a cavity of the customer's building, resulting in a bad smell as it decomposes. It can be difficult to locate a dead rodent without cutting holes in the walls or lifting floorboards, which is disruptive, expensive and sometimes impossible.”
