Deadline approaches for European cleaning competition

The deadline is looming for young cleaners to be entered into two high profile cleaning competitions.

Entrants are wanted for EuroSkills in Lisbon 2010 and WorldSkills in London 2011. Both contests offer cleaning employers the chance to showcase their staffs’ talents to a wide audience and gain substantial positive publicity. The only cost to employers is in allowing their staff the time to train and compete.

The international competitions follow the UK Team Clean Challenge in which teams from across Britain pitted their cleaning abilities against each other on a national platform. The events are organised by Asset Skills, the Sector Skills Council for cleaning. Previous participants have included MITIE, Emprise, Strand, OCS and Principle Cleaning. Entrants are put through vigorous assessments of their practical responses to a set of scenarios including mocked-up filthy hospital wards, office spaces and dirty IT equipment. The competition has also run concurrently in the prisons’ sector.

To be eligible for EuroSkills you must be aged 25 or under in September 2010. For WorldSkills you must be 23 or under in September 2011. Each team should include one supervisor and two cleaners.

Companies may enter one or more people as cleaners or supervisors and selection events will be held nationally and regionally dependent on numbers. Entry is free. Please call on 01604 233 336 or E.mail [email protected] with the name, date of birth, address, phone and email details of the young cleaners who wish to be considered by 26 June 2009.
