Cleaning franchises sweep to victory at 2023 BFA awards

Home help franchise, Extra Help, and commercial cleaning company, ServiceMaster Clean (Contract Services), have won awards at the 2023 BFA HSBC British Franchise Awards.

Extra Help, who provide a range of services from domestic cleaning to meal preparation, ironing, gardening, shopping and companionship, won the ‘Lifestyle Franchisor of the Year Award’ and Siva Kugathas, a franchisee with ServiceMaster Clean (Contract Services), won the ‘Franchisee Trailblazer Award’ and the ‘Franchisee People’s Choice Award’, as voted for by the audience of 600 on the night.

Founded in 1977 and with a strapline of ‘Discover Your Tomorrow’, the BFA (British Franchise Association) is the hub of franchising in the UK. The association strives to brighten people’s futures by showcasing the opportunities for businesses and individuals to transform their lives through franchising, whilst also providing an educational space and accreditations, governed by their high standards and a code of ethics.

The awards were held at The Vox Conference Centre in Birmingham on 9 November 2023.

Founded in 1929 and franchised in 1952, ServiceMaster Clean (Contract Services) is a member of the ServiceMaster Brands family. It provides bespoke commercial cleaning services to clients across multiple sectors.

Commenting on his win, Siva, who operates ServiceMaster Clean (Contract Services) commercial cleaning franchises in Guildford, Thames Valley, Bracknell, Watford, Luton, East Kent, Ipswich, Colchester, Humberside North, Humberside South, Doncaster, Lincolnshire, York, and Lancashire, said: “I am delighted to win the HSBC BFA British Franchisee Trailblazer award and the ‘Franchisee People’s Choice Award’. I want to thank the BFA and the audience for these awards and most importantly, my team. I would like to dedicate these awards to my management staff and the rest of my team.”

Claire Robinson QFP, founded home help business Extra Help in 2010, franchising it in 2012. She now has 30 franchisees covering 32 territories across the UK. Claire said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have won the ‘Lifestyle Franchisor of the Year’ award. My BFA journey has been a very special one. Winning a BFA award is the ultimate award in franchising, and I feel very privileged to have been a finalist and am amazed to be the winner!”
