Cleaning company scoops regional Vanarama Van Hero award

Stuart Alexander of Glasgow's Ultra Clear Cleaning is celebrating after being selected from applicants across the UK as regional finalist in a competition to find Britain's best 'Van Hero'. The competition, designed to recognise the entrepreneurial spirit of the great British van driver, was open to van or pickup truck driving independent businesses, no matter what their trade or industry.

Since establishing the business, Stuart Alexander has grown it sufficiently to employ cleaning staff from across the local area, providing job security to people where before there was none. He said: “Too many van drivers get a bad press, so it's refreshing to be recognised for the hard work and commitment we've put into building up our business. Being in with a chance of winning a van lease or £5000 cash is amazing. For a small business like my own, having another vehicle on the road doing business would make a huge difference to our cash flow and mean that we could grow further.”

Andy Alderson, managing director and founder of Vanarama, said: “Over the past few months we've encouraged people to vote for inspirational tradespeople in their local communities. The fact that Stuart's business has been chosen as one of our regional finalists is testament to the conscientious, caring and customer focussed nature of his work. We want to showcase van drivers like Stuart - hard-workers, running their own business, following their dreams while helping their communities at the same time. A real credit to the van driving population!”
