A family run business swept the board by winning three awards at the recent Croydon Business Excellence Awards. Chequers was once again recognised in three categories and awarded the accolades of Best Business for Training and Development, Best Green Business, and Apprenticeship Provider of The Year.
Commenting specifically on the Training and Development Award, Steve Rapley, international trade adviser of UK Trade and Investment, said on behalf of the judges: “With a desire to incorporate all members of the community into their business, and a willingness to train each individual at all levels, this company was the most outstanding candidate in this category.”
Kate Ward, sales and marketing director, said: “It's unbelievable to win three awards and we are so proud of our staff, their engagement and support with our training and apprenticeship opportunities. Success is a team effort and we work closely with our staff, clients, suppliers, and business partners. We are also proud to be based in Croydon and really enjoy working with the local community.”
Apprenticeships have always played a part in the development of the company and at present Chequers has 16 working within the company ranging from trainee accounting, business administration, caretaking, maintenance operations, electrical, painting and decorating, and horticultural as well as second generation family members working within the company, keeping family values as the driving force.
To further develop staff, the company also has two BICSc Training Academies, one at its head office in Croydon and another with its client One Housing Group at Arlington House in Camden.
