The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) has confirmed the establishment of a new Wales region. The region will serve BIFM members in Wales, alongside other facilities management practitioners, through knowledge sharing, best practice, learning and key networking events.
The inaugural event, working with Welsh Assembly, took place at the BIFM Award winning Millennium Centre in Cardiff on 5 June. Speakers included CEO of Cynnal Cymru - Sustain Wales, David Fitzpatrick, Claire Powell, head of FM and construction category at the National Procurement Service, and Roger Smart, BIFM Wales Region chair. The event also witnessed the signing of the Welsh Sustainability Charter by BIFM CEO Gareth Tancred.
Tancred said: “As our membership continues to grow in Wales, now is the right time for a dedicated region to meet the needs of FM professionals - it is also very apt that the launch event is being held at an award winning facility. We will continue to watch other key areas of membership growth and work to identify regions which need BIFM local representation and act accordingly.”
Roger Smart said: “I am delighted to chair BIFM's newest region, supported by a great committee of volunteers who all have the same aim - to improve professionalism within various FM elements for our members. As we go into this new venture together, we will strive to inform and educate the value of BIFM to building owners and users, and staff responsible for the operation of the buildings through collaboration with other BIFM groups, the sharing of good practice and many special events hosted at some of Wales's most iconic and impressive facilities. This is a great opportunity to firmly place Welsh FM on the map.”
