Beware the hidden dangers

New Corporate Member - Albany Washroom Services - is on a mission to raise standards in Britain’s loos. The headline sponsor for this year’s Loo of the Year awards has launched a new video designed to highlight the hidden dangers that lurk in washrooms.

The three minute video uses brightly coloured paints to demonstrate how cross contamination occurs in a washroom. It shows how poorly trained cleaners can exacerbate the problem by using the wrong cleaning materials.

Mike Burton, MD of Albany, said: “Washrooms are a breeding ground for germs such as protozoa and parasitic worms, which can be transferred by hand to hand contact. Crucially, washrooms need to be effectively cleaned and maintained. Properly designed and specified washrooms can reduce days lost through illness by up to 50%. Research shows that a high number of people fail to wash their hands after visiting the toilet. Each year more than 600,000 people contract diseases such as the winter vomiting bug due to poor hand hygiene and cross contamination. Our message is clear: good washrooms are good for everyone.”
