Flora Beverley – also known as @foodfitnessfflora – is an influencer with over 100k followers, environmental campaigner, and the driving force behind the Pollinator Pathways Project. This volunteer-led initiative transforms neglected and tarnished alleyways in Bristol into accessible, nature-friendly spaces that communities are proud of.
The project began as a local frustration for Flora and her neighbours, when a nearby alleyway became so overrun with fly tipping and rubbish it was unsafe. The team has since evolved this city-wide project, dedicated to improving shared spaces for both people and wildlife.
This summer, Flora led her latest clean-up project with the support of leading cleaning provider Kärcher UK, in which Pollinator Pathways Project and Kärcher came together to refresh and elevate alleyways in Bristol.
Flora said: “The inaccessibility of these alleyways was especially problematic for elderly neighbours, people with mobility challenges and families with young children – all of whom rely on these pedestrian routes. Reclaiming the full width of the alleyways can be extremely strenuous and time-consuming, so when Kärcher UK reached out to offer their support, we were overjoyed.”
To meet the demands of the project, Kärcher provided a team of volunteers, a suite of professional cleaning equipment, and a donation of £1,500 towards plants and planters to support the next phase of the project. Equipment included a van mounted self-contained mobile hot water pressure washer cleaning unit, ideal for removing decades worth of dirt and grime. To tackle the overgrown brambles and dense overgrowth, the team used one of Kärcher’s hedge trimmers.
Flora continued: “We honestly couldn’t have done it without Kärcher. The pressure washer was my personal favourite – it didn’t just clear away the grime, it revealed the original surface underneath for the first time in years. The hedge trimmer made quick work of cutting everything back, which saved us hours.”
With Kärcher’s support, the team successfully transformed three alleyways in just one weekend – a milestone made possible by the winning combination of powerful equipment and dedicated volunteer support.
These same professional-grade cleaning machines are trusted by businesses across the UK to deliver fast, effective and reliable results. From award-winning pressure washers to sweepers designed for large-scale cleaning – Kärcher machines deliver immaculate results while saving time, effort and boosting productivity.
To help improve efficiency for future projects, Kärcher gifted Flora and the team a professional pressure washer and sweeper, which will drastically reduce the time and effort required for similar alleyway cleans.
Flora concluded: “Having these tools going forward will be a game changer. What used to take six people can now be done by one, allowing us to clean faster and spend more time on creative activities like painting, planting, and turning these alleyways into attractive places people can enjoy.”
The Pollinator Pathways Project is part of a wider initiative of nine community cleans across the UK by Kärcher in celebration of the brand’s 90th anniversary. The initiatives bring together Kärcher’s expert staff and local volunteers to revitalise a variety of spaces, from alleyways and beaches to autism education centres and dog charity facilities. These projects reflect Kärcher’s core values of giving back to local communities and aiming to improve local spaces for all to enjoy – embodying Kärcher’s ethos of making a difference.
Elysha Concannon, Senior Marketing Communications Manager for Kärcher Professional UK, said: “We’re proud to have supported Flora with her Pollinator Pathways Project providing the tools, volunteers and expertise needed to transform three alleyways in one day. Turning neglected spaces into safe, environmentally friendly areas for the whole community to enjoy is no easy task, and it’s incredibly inspiring to see what can be achieved through collaboration. With Kärcher’s equipment, we’re confident Flora will continue to make a real difference in people's lives and the places they call home.”
