Spyglass Innovations has secured a Scottish EDGE award worth £75,000 to support the growth of LooBlade - the company’s reinvention of the toilet brush. Built on patented SwipeClean technology, LooBlade swipes a toilet clean with antimicrobial blades that kill all germs on contact, significantly reducing reliance on bleach. By staying clean and clog-free, it is claimed to last far longer than a conventional brush.
Following a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, LooBlade has already signed multiple retail and distributor deals across the world. The Scottish EDGE funding will be used to recruit sales staff to manage and grow key distributor relationships, as well as to help set up a US manufacturing base, with the aim of lowering export costs by 20%.
The Scottish EDGE awards showcase Scotland’s most innovative, high-growth potential start-up businesses, with the aim of boosting Scotland’s economy by supporting the country’s small businesses. The finals of the awards were held last night at a ceremony in Edinburgh.
Scottish EDGE CEO, Evelyn McDonald, said: “LooBlade is a revolutionary replacement for the conventional toilet brush and we’re excited to be supporting Spyglass Innovations to take this product to a global market.”
The business was one of 14 to receive funding of over £1 million as part of the Scottish EDGE’s ninth competition round, which launched in August last year. Scottish EDGE, which looks to support Scotland’s innovative, high-growth potential entrepreneurial talent, received a total of 218 applications for the current competition round.
